Despite the rain, cold and wind last night in the season opener in Babe Ruth 10U softball at Lions park, the games went on as planned with CARSTAR beating WalMart in the first game by a score of 10-6 and Creations by Diana prevailing over Citizen's Community Bank in the nightcap 11-2.
With the parade of players lined up both along the first and third base lines during opening ceremonies, Boonville Parks and Recreation Direction Gary Nauman also sang the National Anthem to open the 2013 season in Babe Ruth softball.
As for the first game last night, WalMart jumped out to an early lead against CARSTAR by pushing across two runs in each of the first-two innings to go up 4-2. However, in the bottom-half of the third, CARSTAR exploded for six runs to make it 8-4. The game was nip and tuck after that, with WalMart adding two more runs in the top-half of the fourth to cut the lead to two at 8-6 only to have CARSTAR plate two in the bottom-half of the inning for the victory.
Krista Monnig pitched the first inning for CARSTAR, followed by Alexis Albin in the second and Monnig again in the third and fourth.
For WalMart, Brooke Eichelberger pitched the first-three innings while Bryanna Jones pitched the fourth.
CARSTAR also out-hit WalMart 11-10, with Alexis Albin going 2-for-2 with a single, double and one RBI. Jocelyn Dalton and Kali Corbitt each had two singles and one RBI while Kennedy Renfrow added a single and two RBIs, Becky Evans with one single and one RBI and McKenzie Elliott, Alyson Blank, Hannah Coffelt and Kyleigh Thacher with one single each.
For WalMart, Faith Mesik, Daylynn Baker and Brooklyn Parson each had two singles while Bryanna Jones added one double and two RBIs, Celsey Wood with one single and one RBI and Brooke Eichelberger and LaDonna Washington with one single each.
In the nightcap, Creations by Diana jumped out to stay against Citizen's Community Bank while exploding for six runs in the first and five again in the fourth to go up 11-0. Meanwhile, in the bottom-half of the fourth, CCB plated two runs to avoid the shutout.
Logan Root pitched the first-two innings for Creations by Diana, followed by one inning from Kourtney Kendrick and Jodie Bass for one inning.
Creations by Diana also finished the game with 16 hits, with Logan Root going 2-for-2 with a single, home run and three RBIs. Kourtney Kendrick was 2-for-2 with a single, triple and one RBI while Amanda Newbold added a single, double and three RBIs, Jersey Cantrell and Meredith Stumbaugh each with two singles and one RBI, Lilian Rohrbach with two singles, Kasey Terrell with one single and one RBI and Jodie Bass, Kathryn Anderson and Hana Cook each with one single.
For CCB, Carson Dee had one single and one RBI while Abby Maupin, Taylor Simmons, Hayden Wright, Evalyn Drew and Bekah Taylor added one single each.
