Although it doesn’t count for anything other than winning the Cal Ripken Major Preseason Tournament, Sell’s Carpet emerged as the victor Saturday by beating CARSTAR in the championship game by a score of 12-6.
While finishing the tournament at 3-0, Sell’s Carpet opened the day by beating Infinite Creations in a nailbiter by a score of 6-5.
Of course the win didn’t come easy for Sell’s Carpet, as they trailed Infinite Creations 3-0 after the first, 4-2 after four and 5-2 after 4 1/2. However, in the bottom-half of the fifth, Sell’s Carpet rallied back with four runs for the come from behind victory.
Carson Campbell picked up the win in relief for Sell’s Carpet while Ethan Walker took the loss for IC. Campbell pitched one inning in relief and gave up one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one. Walker, meanwhile, pitched to four batters and allowed four runs on three hits and one walk.
Sell’s Carpet also out-hit IC 8-5, with Jared Viertel collecting two singles, a home run and two RBIs. Reece Lang had two singles and one RBI while Carson Campbell added two singles and Brandon Johnson with one single and two RBIs.
For IC, Kellen Brownfield had three singles and one RBI while Dylan Barnthouse added one single and one RBI and Austin Kollmeyer with one single.
In the second game, CARSTAR defeated Huebert Fiberboard 8-3.
Huebert Fiberboard led 2-1 after 2 1/2 but was outscored 7-1 the rest of the way to suffer the loss.
Cole Meisenheimer picked up the win on the mound for CARSTAR while Russell Potter took the loss for Hueberts. Meisenheimer pitched two innings in relief of starter Dylan Watson and struck out four batters while giving up one run on three hits. Potter, meanwhile, pitched one inning in relief and issued four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two.
Dylan Watson had two doubles and two RBIs in the game for CARSTAR while Andrew McCullough, Josh Polk and Jake Horst added a single and one RBI each and Brayden Page and Zane Mesik with one single apiece.
For Hueberts, Quinn Gentry had a RBI-double while Josh Chrisman finished the game with a RBI-single and Dominic Barber, Clayton Gochenour and Russell Potter each with one single.
In the third game of the day, Sell’s Carpet again trailed 3-0 after the second against Rick Ball Auto Mall before breaking the game wide open with one in the third, 11 in the fourth and four again in the fifth for a 16-5 victory.
Jared Viertel was the winning pitcher in the game for Sell’s Carpet while Gabe Bullard took the loss for Rick Ball. Viertel pitched one inning in relief and walked two while striking out two. Bullard, meanwhile, pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and yielded six runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one.

Sean White and Reece Lang also doubled in the game while Ethan Van Dyke added a RBI-single, Sam Esser and Alejandro Vivas each with one single, Lucas Ziegelbein with three RBIs, Brandon Johnson with two RBIs and Carson Campbell with one RBI.
For Rick Ball, Peyton Keeran, Carson Bail and Trae Williams each had a single and one RBI while Logan Zaugg added one single and Aaron Adams with one RBI.
In the fourth game, CARSTAR held off a rally in the bottom-half of the fourth by QuinlanAgency.com for a 7-6 victory.
CARSTAR led QA.com 6-1 after two and 7-1 after 3 1/3 before giving up five runs in the bottom-half of the fifth.
Jake Horst was the winning pitcher in the game for CARSTAR while Brock Nowlin took the loss for QA.com. Horst pitched the first-two innings and gave up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three. Nowlin, meanwhile, pitched two innings to start the game for QA.com and surrendered six runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one.
Dylan Watson led the hitting attack in the game for CARSTAR with a double, home run and two RBIs while Josh Polk added a single, double and one RBI, Cole Meisenheimer with one single and one RBI, John Jenkins with one single and Ross Hudson with two RBIs.
For QA.com, Brock Nowlin had two singles, Heath Danner one single and Cole Corbitt with one RBI.
