It was a beautiful morning in Concord on Monday, as a park ranger stepped up to the microphone at the Old North Bridge for the Patriot’s Day festivities. In the presence of Democratic state and federal officials, the ranger narrated the events that led to the events of April 19, 1775–that the government had levied heavy and unfair taxes to pay for unpopular social programs and wars, that the King had demonstrated contempt for the legislature of the people, denied them their civil liberties, occupied Boston and interfered with commerce and the Courts and then, of course, attempted to take away the guns stored at the homes of the citizens–an attempt which, fortunately, was rebuffed by colonists who refused to be afraid and held their ground. Nice narrative.
Except for what the week held. On Monday, the federal government took all of our money for unpopular social programs and wars. On Wednesday, Obama tried to take away our guns, and on Friday declared contempt for our Senate by promising to act contrary to the actions of of our legislature. On Thursday, Obama and his forces came to and occupied Boston, interfered with our commerce and courts, interfered in the laws of our own legislature and federalized our laws and, when a criminal suspect was caught who had engaged in state crimes, participated in declaring the abrogation of the suspect’s civil liberties, promised to bring in some kind of “elite special interrogation unit” to torture the suspect and feed him into Carmen Ortiz’s Chamber of Horrors. All the while, the people of this Commonwealth passively cowered in their homes rather than taking a stand at the bridge. I never did find out where the feds had the right to lock people in their houses, or what the penalty for ignoring such a request might entail.
But it does force the question: who should we fear–Barack Hussein Obama, or a mixed up 19 year old college kid with a pressure cooker?
