  • Poor weather, and low hunter participation, led to the lowest Opening Day Spring Turkey Harvest in Cooper County in several years.
Opening day for the Spring Firearms Turkey Season was Monday, April 15.  Cooper County hunters checked 26 birds compared to 46 in 2013.  Howard County hunters did not let the weather interfere with their hunting plans, as 46 birds were checked, compared to 41 birds taken in Howard County in 2012.  Similar results were reported in Moniteau County as 39 birds were taken on opening day this year compared to 41 taken in Moniteau in 2012.  Saline County reports a similar decline in harvest numbers, and hunters as Cooper County.  Saline County hunters took 25 birds on opening day compared to 38 birds taken in 2012.  The spring firearms turkey season runs through May 5th.
