Benefit being held for Pilot Grove resident
A benefit for Pilot Grove resident Mary Perry will be held April 14 at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Perry works at Katy Manor Care Center in Pilot Grove, but will soon have to quit her job because of her health.
Perry has developed chronic kidney disease and is now in kidney failure. Close friend and committee member for the benefit, Laurie Beach said Perry is a person many people see on a daily basis.
"Being born and raised in Pilot Grove she is one of the strong figures that many have always seen. She is on peritoneal dialysis and is in need of a kidney transplant. Because of her health issues she will not be able to work. However, she is such a remarkable lady. Many residents of Katy Manor Nursing Home have seen her as a hidden legend," Beach said.
Beach said for 23 years she has gone the extra mile for residents and her co-workers.
"Being a medication technician she has been at the bedside of every resident each day. Her strong dedication to hard work and heartwarming smile was the hidden treasure that many residents loved. No matter what was needed for the care of the residents, Mary was always there to lend a helping hand," Beach said.
Beach said the committee is currently seeking donations.
The benefit dinner will offer a plate for $10, which will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, salad, biscuits and dessert. A raffle will include such items as a quilt, painted wooden stool and handmade pottery. A silent auction and bake sale will also be held.
