  • Pilot Grove baseball coach Clint Poulsen went with his gut Tuesday night while handing the ball over to Aaron Waibel and Sean Lorenz in CCAA action against the Otterville Eagles.
While playing the Eagles just one week earlier, which resulted in a victory, the Tigers once again led Otterville from start to finish for a 11-0 victory.
Pilot Grove coach Clint Poulsen said his team came out and hit the ball well again.
"It was a chance for Aaron Waibel and Sean Lorenz to get their first pitching innings of the year," Poulsen said. "We still have to get better at hitting the ball to all fields with power, but we'll get there. This is the start of a lot of games over the next-two weeks so we'll see what we are made of."
Of course it didn't hurt that Pilot Grove scored all 11 runs in the first-four innings by pushing across tswo runs in each of the first and second innings of play, one again in the third and six in the fourth.
As for the pitching, Aaron Waibel picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the CCAA, while Justin Halgren took the loss for Otterville.
In two innings pitched, Waibel pitched the first-two innings and struck out one batter while giving up one hit. Sean Lorenz then came in and pitched one inning with three strikeouts, followed by one inning in relief by Jake Leverton with two hits and one strikeout and one inning by Grant Vollrath, who had three strikeouts.
Halgren, meanwhile, pitched all five innings for Otterville and gave up 11 runs on nine hits and five walks while striking out three batters.
Pilot Grove also out-hit Otterville 9-3, with Kendall Kraus going 2-for-3 with a double, triple and one RBI. Sean Lorenz was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs while Alex Twenter added a three-RBI triple, Jake Leverton and Aaron Waibel each with a RBI-double, Jon Gerke with a RBI-single and Regan Meisenheimer and Keaton Vollrath with one single each.
For Otterville, Garrett Lynn doubled while Ryan Benny and Justin Halgren each singled.
