The New Franklin Bulldogs baseball team relied on the arms of Zach Evans and Evan Storjohann to beat the Brunswick Wildcats in CAC action Tuesday night in New Franklin by a score of 10-0.
While the win improved New Franklin’s record to 5-2 overall, head coach Erich Gerding said the energy and focus was not where it needed to be. “Hopefully, we can be better at Harrisburg on Wednesday,” Gerding said. “Zach and Evan did a good job for us. Offensively, we were walked 11 times.”
The Bulldogs also scored early and often against Brunswick by pushing across one run in the first, five again in the second and four in the third for the victory.
As for the pitching, Evan Storjohann picked up the win by pitching three innings in relief of starter Zach Evans. Evans pitched the first-two innings and struck out four batters while giving up just one walk. Storjohann then came in and pitched three innings in relief and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out eight.
New Franklin also out-hit Brunswick 4-1, with Tyler Hull going 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs. Jacob Woodbury was 1-for-1 with a single and one RBI while Jacob Hendrix added one single, Alex Holem and Evan Storjohann each with two RBIs and Tyler White with one RBI.
In the JV game, New Franklin defeated Brunswick 6-0 by scoring three runs in each of the first and third innings of play.
Gerding said Adam Harris and TJ Schapira looked good on the mound. “Our energy was definitely better in the JV game,” Gerding said.
Adam Harris picked up the win mound for Boonville by striking out four batters in two innings. TJ Schapira, meanwhile, pitched one inning in relief and allowed one hit while striking out two.
Schapira also went 2-for-2 in the game with two singles and two RBIs. Austin Wetrich finished the game with a double and one RBI while Levi Bishop also had one double and Jacob Hendrix, Adam Harris and Jared Wyatt each with one single.
