  • The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team picked up its second shutout of the 2013 season Tuesday night at the BHS Sports Complex by beating Father Tolton out of Columbia by a score of 4-0.
The Lady Pirates, improving to 4-3 overall, wasted little time getting on the scoreboard last night against the Lady Trailblazers by scoring 12 minutes into the match on an assist from Cali Jo McAreavy to McKenna McAreavy to make it 1-0. Cali Jo and McKenna also hooked up on a goal Monday night at Mexico, with McKenna assisting Cali Jo.
Of course the Lady Pirates had more scoring in the match, with senior Allie Dowling hitting a direct shot into the net at the 21 minute mark to extend the lead to 2-0.
With the Lady Pirates in no real jeopardy of losing the lead while going in at the half on top by two goals, the second half was pretty much a carbon copy of the first as Boonville added another goal at the 44 minute mark on an assist from senior Bailey Pfeiffer to Kayla Cotten to go up 3-0. Then, at the 70-minute mark, the Lady Pirates picked up their fourth goal of the match on an assist from McKenna McAreavy to Katie Vest.
Boonville Lady Pirates soccer coach Tim Brown said all in all the girls played pretty well. "We got the shutout, but we are having a terrible time finishing," Brown said. "Even though we have scored 17 goals over the past three matches, which may seem like a lot, I'm sure we have actually missed well over twice as many good goal-scoring opportunities as we have coverted breakaways, empty nets, miss kicks and the occasional utter lack of assertiveness. Our ogranization is pretty good, and we are community well-now, we just need to put it all together so that we can begin a legitimate challenge for some silverware. It was nice to get another win against a district opponent."
Boonville also finished the match with 30 shot attempts and 14 shots on goal while Father Tolton had only five shot attempts and four shots on goal.
The Lady Pirates also had three fouls in the match compared to two for Father Tolton.
Junior Cassidy Renfrow and freshman Haylee Thomas also split time at the goalie position for Boonville. Thomas finished the match with three saves while Renfrow had one.
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team will travel to Kirksville for a conference match on Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
