Post Office Department Honors Books T. Washington
As part of the Famous Americans Series, the Post Office Department issued a 10 cents stamp of Booker T. Washington on April 7, 1940. Washington was the first African-American to appear on a stamp, and the first day of issue ceremony took place on the campus of Tuskegee Institute which he founded.
