Boonville sophomore Brett Windsor continued his string of good fortune Monday during the annual Grain Valley Eagle Invitational Golf Tournament at Adams Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs.
While finishing second behind Bailey Woods of Warrensburg with a 2-over par 74, Windsor also helped the Pirates improve from a 15th place finish in 2012 to a sixth place finish yesterday.
In the final-team standings, Marshall captured first with a team score of 327. Warrensburg finished second at 336, followed by Harrisonville at 343, Pleasant Hill at 349, O’Hara at 352, Boonville at 361, Platte County at 365, Christ Prep at 372, Odessa at 373, Grain Valley at 389, Knob Noster at 406, Butler at 417, Lexington at 428, Clinton at 447 and Oak Grove N/A.
Boonville Pirates golf coach Seth Pirtle said this year’s Grain Valley Tournament was a great success. “Last year, Boonville placed last in 15th place and this year we placed sixth,” Pirtle said. “This is a great improvement.”
While Woods finished the tournament with a 1-under par 71, Windsor was right in the hunt with a 38-36.
Rounding out the top 10 were Nolan Becarra of Christ Prep with a 36-42 for a score of 78, Tanner Bainbridge of O’Hara with a 41-37 for a score of 78, Mark Plummer of Marshall with a 39-40 for a score of 79, Taylor Woods of Warrensburg with a 38-42 for a score of 80, Taylor Livingston of Pleasant Hill with a 43-38 for a score of 81, Joe Sevy of Harrisonville with a 43-39 for a score of 82, Alex Maupin with a score of 44-38 for a score of 82 and Nate Kleoppel of Odessa with a 44-38 for a score of 82.
Other scores for Boonville had Tanner Green finishing the tournament with a 43-45 for a final score of 88, followed by Clayton Lang with a 53-46 for a score of 99, Eric VanderLinden with a 47-53 for a score of 100 and Morgan Johnston with a 56-60 for a score of 116.
Green finished 18th overall while Lang placed 39th, VanderLinden 44th and Johnston 64th out of 75 golfers.
The Boonville Pirates golf team will compete next on Monday, April 8th in the Smith-Cotton Classic in Sedalia starting at 10 a.m.
Teams competing in the tournament along with Boonville are Eldon, Jeff City, Lee’s Summit West, Pembroke Hill, Sacred Heart, Warrensburg, Camdenton, Helias, Lee’s Summit, Marshall, Richmond, St. Joseph Central, Clinton, Hickman, Lee’s Summit North, Park Hill South, Rock Bridge and Tipton.
