Lead Pencil and Eraser
Inventions aren't always something new. Sometimes they are something old but used in a new way. On March 30, 1858, Philadelphian Hyman L. Lipman was granted patent #19,783 for his "combination lead pencil and eraser." Both items were in use at the time, but had never been part of the same writing instrument.
