The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team added another notch to its belt last night while hosting the Marshall Owls in the conference opener for both teams at the BHS Sports Complex.
With little or no signs of snow alongside the outer portion of the stadium, which was evident Wednesday night against Fulton, the Lady Pirates still managed to score just enough goals to beat the Owls by a score of 2-0.
Boonville soccer coach Tim Brown said his team controlled most of the play, created most of the good scoring opportunities, and only allowed their goal to be threatened a couple of times. “We got the shutout and the win,” Brown said. “Overall, the girls did not feel that they played very well-we did not keep shape, we were careless in possession, and we missed a few easy chances-but we played well enough.”
The Lady Pirates, 2-0 overall and in the conference, wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. After battling back and forth for the first 12 minutes of the match, Boonville scored the first of two goals at the 12:29 mark in the first half on an assist from Sophie Taube to Bailey Pfeiffer from 15 yards out to make it 1-0. Then, at the 18:02 mark, the Lady Pirates answered again when Pfeiffer assisted McKenna McAreavy on a shot right in front of the goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
As far as the JV match, Boonville fell to Marshall by a score of 1-0.
Brown said Marshall put a lot of pressure on the JV team and the girls had a difficult time creating a meaningful attack.
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team will travel to Moberly for a conference match on Tuesday, April 2 starting at 5 p.m. Then, on Wednesday, April 3, the Lady Pirates will host Hannibal in a make-up at the BHS Sports Complex starting at 5.
