The Boonville Pirates golf team continued its winning ways last night at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville by beating both the Mexico Bulldogs and Centralia Panthers in a triangular meet.
In only its second meet of the 2013 season, the Pirate golfers won by a mere three strokes over previously unbeaten Mexico 171-174. The Centralia Panthers, meanwhile, finished a distant third with a score of 182.
But more importantly, the Pirate golfers are off to a blazing start for the season at 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NCMC.
Boonville golf coach Seth Pirtle said it is great going into the season at 2-0.
“This is a much needed improvement over last year,” stated Pirtle. “I expect more of the same as the season continues. With the limited amount of playing time, due to weather, I am very happy with how the team is performing. Though some of the individual scores could be better, this was our first conference win since taking over as head coach.”
The only thing that really didn’t go Boonville’s way yesterday was that Mexico’s Brack Lunceford and Daymond Dollenes of Centralia tied for meet medalist honors with a 2-over par 37. However, after going back through scorecard playoff, Lunceford was declared the overall winner.
Boonville sophomore Brett Windsor, meanwhile, finished only one stroke back of both Lunceford and Dollenes with a 3-over par 38. Windsor’s day consisted of six pars and three bogeys.
Sophomore Clayton Lang had the second best score for the Pirates with a 8-over par 43, which included five pars, two bogeys and two others. Eric VanderLinden fired a 9-over par 44, which included two pars, five bogeys and two others. Tanner Green finished the meet with a 11-over par 46 with two pars, five bogeys and three others, while Morgan Johnson carded a 20-over par 55 with one par, one bogey and seven others.
In the JV meet for Boonville, Josh Vollmer fired a 21-over par 56 while Austin Day added a 29-over par 64 and Richard Bell with a 31-over par 66.
