Here are a few fun things to do this week, right in your own backyard!

Thursday, March 28th

The World Raven Made: Ahtna Athabaskan Culture, Truman State University-Student Union Building Georgian Room

It is no doubt that Truman State University is a hub for cultural events in Kirksville. This week the University will play host to Ahtna poet John Smelcer for his poetry reading “The World Raven Made: Ahtna Athabaskan Culture” beginning at 7:00 pm. The Athna people are a tribe from Alaska and Smecler writes works in the native language, perhaps one of the very few to do so.

Thursday, March 28th

Truman State University Brass Choir Concert, Truman State University-Ophelia Parrish Performance Hall

Enjoy the sounds of the Truman State University Brass Choir when they perform a concert beginning at 8:00 pm. This performance is one of many public performances put on by the music department at Truman every school year so if you attend and love it, keep your eyes on the University master calendar. You’ll find the full schedule of performances there.

Saturday, March 30th

Easter Egg Hunt, Truman State University Campus Quad

Don’t have the energy to hide eggs in every nook and cranny of the yard for your kids this year? Can’t say I blame you! Let someone else do the work and take the kids to the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, starting at 10 am. The Big Ears himself (that’s the Easter Bunny) will be on site for photos as well.

Saturday, March 30th

The 33rd Annual El Kadir Wild Turkey Day Amateur Youth Calling Contest & Fun Day, El Kadir Shrine Club

Join the Shriners for a turkey calling contest, a bb gun shoot, a bow and arrow shoot and a banquet. You can buy tickets in advance or at the door for the day-long celebration of youth, hunting, and the El Kadir Shrine Club. There will be door prizes, gift bags, and proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital.

April 2nd

Election Day

It’s not that fun. It’s not that exciting. But it is important. Don’t forget to vote for our next City Council officials.

For more information about these events or to include your event on the Chamber of Commerce Community Calendar, call 660-665-3766.
