  • Kansas City, Mo. - The Columbia Lady Cougar basketball team had two players selected to the NAIA Division I All-American team released earlier today. Columbia was represented by junior Heather English on the second team, while senior transfer Lily Abreu was named to the honorable mention squad.
English, a third team selection last season, was the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Player of the Year for the second straight season. The Boonville, Mo. native averaged a team-high 15.4 points per game and led the AMC in steals with 96, tenth-best in the NAIA. She is just the second player in program history to be named a second team All-American, joining Charliss Ridley (2003-04, 2004-05).
Abreu, a senior transfer from Arkansas Tech University, was second on the team at 15.1 points per game during the season and was named to the first team all-conference squad in her only year with the Lady Cougars. She scored a season-high 34 points at Missouri Baptist University on February 14th and also had a team-high 28 points in Columbia’s AMC Championship victory over William Woods (Mo.) University on March 4th.
The duo helped lead the Lady Cougars to 27 victories and their fifth consecutive trip to the NAIA national tournament after winning the AMC regular season and tournament championships.
