  • Prairie Home R-V student Sage Eichenburch, son of Peggy Ann Eichen and Gary Burch will compete in Missouri's state level competition for the 2013 National Competition Geography Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
Eichenburch won his school bee, which was a competition between fourth through eight grade students. He then took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the NGS. The top 100 scores were then invited to compete at each state level.
This year the NGS will hold the bee at Moberly Area Community College in Moberly on April 5.
"We are very proud of Sage and excited he has this opportunity," Prairie Home Principal Patrick Trey said.
He also said it is not often that something like this happens at Prairie Home. He said the whole school and community will be rooting for him as he competes in Moberly.
The state winner will receive $100, the complete National Geographic on DVD and a trip to Washington D.C. where he or she will represent the state in the National Finals. The final winner will receive a $25,000 scholarship, a lifetime membership to the society and an all expense trip paid to the Galapagos Islands.
The final round of of the 2013 National Geographic Bee will be moderated by Alex Trebek on May 23.
