KC team named "Royals"

Three important Major League Baseball events took place in 1967. One, the Athletics left Kansas City for Oakland; two, MLB expanded to 24 terms; and three, KC received one of those teams.

After considering over 17,000 suggestions, the Board of Directors, on Mary 21, 1968, named KC's expansion team the "Royals."
