Here are a few fun things to do this week, right in your own backyard!

Saturday, March 23rd

Wild Game Chili Cook Off, Ray Miller Elementary School  

It is finally here! The Wild Game Chili Cook Off benefitting Share the Harvest and Christian Community Food Depot will take place beginning at Noon at the Ray Miller Elementary School. Teams will battle it out for prizes awarded by a panel of judges as well as the People’s Choice Award. Interested in trying your hand at the competition? Registrations will be taken the day of the event. Try out this recipe if you do not already have one of your own on hand:

Venison Chili (from tablespoon.com)

Ingredients:

1 tbs olive oil

1 lb boneless venison, cut in 1 inch cubs

2 onions, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 Anaheim chiles, seeded and chopped

1 green peper, chopped

2 cans chili beans, undrained

1 can crushed tomatoes, undrained

2 tsp cumin

2 tsp chili powder

Directions: Heat oil in large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until hot. Add venison; cook and stir 3 to 4 minutes or until lightly browned. Add onions and garlic; cook and stir 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in all remaining chili ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook 15 to 20 minutes or until meat is tender, stirring occasionally. Top each serving with cheese and cilantro.

Monday, March 25th- Friday, March 29th

Easter Week Prayer Breakfast, First Christian Church

Beginning on Monday and each morning through Good Friday, a community prayer breakfast will be served at 7 am at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Each day will feature a speaker from the community. The breakfast is free, but donations will be accepted.

Tuesday, March 26th

City Council Candidates Forum, El Kadir Shrine Club

On April 2nd Kirksville citizens will be called to elect two new city council members. Educate yourself on each candidate and their positions on Tuesday at a Candidates Forum hosted by the Kirksville Chamber of Commerce. Doors open at 5 pm for a meet and greet with the candidates and the forum begins at 6 pm.

Wednesday, March 27th

Kohlenberg Lyceum Series Presents: “Chamber Kremlin Orchestra”, Truman State University

Catch the last Lyceum performance of the season. This orchestra hails from Russia and has earned national and international recognition as one of Russia’s leading ensembles. The performance begins at 7:30 pm in Baldwin Auditorium. Tickets are available at Edna Campbell’s or at the TSU cashier window.
