The Ss. Peter & Paul boys sixth grade basketball team couldn’t have asked for a better season while closing out the 2013 campaign undefeated in 14 games with a 37-19 win over Blackwater Monday night in Boonville.
While leading the Bulldogs from start to finish, Ss. Peter & Paul jumped out to a 22-10 halftime lead and then outscored Blackwater 15-9 in the second half for the victory.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Kevin Lang said this team was fun to coach. “They worked hard in practice and that carried over to how they executed in games,” Lang said. “There is a nice blend of guards and post players. They compliment each other well and have been fun to watch.”
Kellen Brownfield also saved his best for last while pouring in 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocked shots.
Reece Lang finished the game with six points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal while Josh Chrisman added six points, three rebounds and three steals, Sam Esser with five points, one rebound, one steal, one assist and one blocked shot, Zack Watring with four points, six rebounds and one steal, Quin Gentry with two points, four rebounds and two steals, Eli Bechtel with two points and two rebounds, Landon Weaver with two rebounds and one blocked shot and Lucas Ziegelbein with one rebound and one steal.
Tyler Schuster had the team-high for Blackwater with nine points.
The Ss. Peter & Paul girls sixth grade basketball team also went out on a winning note against Blackwater 21-15.
The Lady Warriors led Blackwater 6-2 after one, 10-4 at the half and 15-7 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Blackwater outscored Ss. Peter & Paul 8-6.
Grace Bronakowski led the scoring attack in the game for Ss. Peter & Paul with six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Emmalah Penny added four points, seven rebounds and three steals while Maggie Adair had four points, four steals and one assist, Sydney McGuire with three points, four steals, two rebounds and one assist and Brooke Coleman with two points, four steals, three assists and one rebound.
For Blackwater, Lauren Luscombe had eight, Reece Lavers three and Morgan Massa and Martha Walker each with two.
