  • 10 wrestlers advance to state

  • The Boonville YMCA Youth Wrestling team had a productive weekend while competing in the Region B Tournament Saturday at Lee’s Summit West High School.
    With 14 wrestlers competing in the tournament, 10 will move on to the state tournament on March 29-30 at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis.
    Kristina Hahn said there are four regions with approximately 40-50 teams in each region. The top four wrestlers in each weight class at each regional advance to state, Hahn said.
    As for Boonville, Peyton Hahn, Hunter Tarr, Gaige Ofineer, Charlie Pumel and Landon Bail all took second in their respective age and weight classes.
    Hahn, who participated in the 8U, 100-pound weight class, won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches and but then lost 3-0 in the championship against a wrestler from Odessa. Tarr, meanwhile, competed in the 10U, 60-pound weight class and also won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches before losing 5-2 in the finals.
    Gaige Ofineer competed in the 10U, 140-pound weight class. Charlie Pumel participated in the 12U, 110-pound weight class and won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches before losing 6-4 in overtime in the finals.
    Landon Bail also finished second in the 14U, 235-pound weight class.
    Third place finishers Sean White at 12U, 140 pounds, Thomas Grathwohl at 14U, 75 pounds, Klayton Anderson at 14U, 95 pounds, Joel Concannon at 14U, 145 pounds and Lucas Gerke at 14U, 155 pounds.
    Hahn said Anderson won his opening round and quarterfinal round matches but then lost in the semifinals. He then won in the consolation semifinals to capture third.
    Joel Concannon, meanwhile, had a bye in the opening round and quarterfinal round and then lost his semifinal match. He then won in the consolation semifinals to finish third.
    As for Gerke, he also had a bye in the opening round and quarterfinal round. And like Concannon, Gerke lost in the semifinals before bouncing back with a win in the consolation semifinals for third place.
