    Edward Clark replaces Sam Houston as Governor of Texas.

    When Texas left the Union in February 1861, Governor Sam Houston refused to take the loyalty oath to the Confederacy. He was removed from office and the Office of Governor was declared vacant. Lieutenant Governor Edward Clark was promoted to Goveror of Texas on March 16, 1861. Clark  held the office until November 7, 1861.
