You can run your heart out- right here in your own backyard!

Kirksville has something to offer just about every niche interest a person might have. Interested in cooking with local foods? Visit the Farmer’s Market. Love the ballet? Pencil in the Kohlenberg Lyceum Series dates on the calendar and enjoy performances from international talent.  If you collect McCoy pottery or have a room full of mint green, china teacups, you can visit six different antique shops in Kirksville alone to find your treasures.

Should it be your goal to get in shape, stay in shape, challenge your friends, or challenge yourself, Kirksville keeps community health right on the top of its to-do list.  Between February and December of 2013, the Kirksville area will have played host to 20 races. The most popular event is the standard 5K run, which is usually accompanied by a fun walk.

This year, you can run in the following:

The 29th Annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K on March 17

The  United We Run 5K for Casa on April 20

The YMCA Healthy Kids 5K on April 27

The 34th Annual TCC/YMCA Twilight 5K on July 18

The Truman Bulldog 5K on October 19

And that’s not an exhaustive list! If longer distances are more your style, lace up and register for these upcoming races:

The 34th Annual SAA Osteopathic 5K and 10K on April 13

The Old School 10 Miler for FLATS on June 8

The 3rd Annual FLATS Trail Half Marathon on October 5

The 30th Annual Reindeer Romp 4 Mile Run on December 7

Are you more than a runner? Would you rather bike or swim? Flex your muscles and try out these events:

The Arise 5K Run and 8 Mile Bike Ride on March 30

The Hilliest FLATS Ride Ever on July 6

The 29th Annual NEMO Triathlon on September 8

Kirksville offers an event for an athlete at any level. Make it a goal to participate in an event every season! See if you can beat your personal record. Once you start getting active, you will see plenty of familiar faces and you can bet they will be at the finish line to cheer you on!
