The Boonville boys sixth grade basketball team fell in the semifinal round of the Tipton Tournament last night against the California Shadows by a score of 44-38.
The Pirates led California 15-14 after first period’s end but had the game tied at 22-all going in at the break. Meanwhile, in the third quarter, California outscored Boonville 12-6 to extend the lead to six at 34-28. That proved to be the difference as Boonville matched California with 10 points in the final period.
Boonville coach Kevin Lang said California had a nice inside-outside game. “They had a nice mix of post players and quick guards and were tough to defend,” Lang said. “We were happy with the hustle our boys showed but turnovers kept us from winning the game.”
Dylan Watson had the team-high for Boonville with 15 points along with eight rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot.
Reece Lang finished the game with 14 points, one rebound, one steal, one assist and one blocked shot while Malik Brazil added five points, three rebounds and one assist, Kellen Brownfield with two points and seven rebounds, Zack Watring with two points, one rebound and one assist, Trae Williams with three rebounds and Clayton Gochenour with one rebound.
