  • The Boonville City Council will award $181,288.63 to local agencies and organizations. This decision was made after the regular Tuesday night city council meeting.
Local organizations requested $362,426 altogether. With approximately $194,000 to give away, each council person decided on what organization they wished to fund. The amount awarded was determined by averaging the recommendation from each council member. The total of the recommendations was divided by the number of council members(8). A show of hands of five for awarding the averages and three against prompted the averages to be accepted.
Ward One Councilwoman Kathleen Conway said she awarded money to organizations who primarily feed the hungry people in the community.
Ward Four Councilman Mark Livingston did not agree with the averages because he gave an organization funds when no one else did. The average was then divided by eight, making the amount much smaller.
Discussion began on why the entire amount of funds were not awarded. Conway said she was not happy with awarding all of the funds because they had lowered the amount given from $240,000 to $194,000. Ward Three Councilman Hayes Murray said he thinks the city should start giving less money to area organizations and focussing on city infrastructure. He said the city should not act as a charitable organization.
