The Boonville Pirates youth wrestling team competed in two tournaments over the weekend, Holden Novice and Excelsior Springs.
Competing at Holden were Keandre Anderson 14U 165, Hayden Tarr 10U 60, Hunter Tarr 10U 60, Blake Paulson 12U 120 and Thomas Grothwahl 14U 80.
Keandre Anderson and Hayden Tarr both won first place with 2-0 records. Hunter Tarr and Gage Allison took second place with 1-1 records.
Competing at Excelsior Springs were Peyton Hahn 8U 100, Joel Concannon 14U 145, Charlie Pummel 12U 110 and Lucas Gerke 14U 155.
Excelsior Springs had over 675 entries and is one of the biggest tournaments of the year.
Lucas Gerke competed in a 16-man bracket and won his first match 12-0 against a wrestler from Team Central. Meanwhile, after losing his semifinal match to a wrestler from Savannah by fall in the third period, Gerke fell again in the semifinal wrestlebacks to a wrestler from Mo West 9-2. Then, in the fifth place match against a wrestler from Belton, Gerke won by fall.
Joel Concannon won his first match 11-2 over Team Central but then lost his second match by fall in the second period to a wrestler from Odessa. Then, after winning his third match 4-2 against a wrestler from North Kansas City, Concannon won his last match 6-2 over a wrestler from Excelsior Springs to finish second place.
Peyton Hahn won his semifinal match 5-0 over a Higginsville wrestler and then captured first by winning 6-0 in the finals over a wrestler from Kearney.
Charlie Pummel won his first match against a wrestler from Odessa by pin in the second period. Meanwhile, after losing his semifinal match against a wrestler from Team Cental 9-0, Pummel bounced back and won his wrestleback semifinal match against another wrestler from Odessa by fall in the first period. Pummel finished the day with a loss to Mo West 3-1 in a hard fought battle.
