Otterville boys win by 10 over Bunceton, 60-50
The Bunceton Lady Dragons basketball team moved one step closer to a perfect season in the CCAA conference Tuesday night by turning back the Otterville Lady Eagles by a score of 47-37.
The Lady Dragons, improving to 20-2 overall and 5-0 in the CCAA, led Otterville 21-14 at the half and then outscored the Lady Eagles 26-23 in the final two periods for the victory.
Bunceton coach Mike Arnold said the girls came out with a lot of intensity against Otterville. “We only had one girl that could make a shot,” Arnold said. “Defensively, we had trouble guarding at times. We have to play better on both ends.”
Junior Maddy Berwanger led the scoring attack in the game for Bunceton with 17 points along with eight rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Rachel Emde finished the game with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds along with three assists and one steal. Sam Brandes had eight points, eight rebounds, two steals and three assists while Erica Kahle added seven points, nine rebounds and two assists and Julia Kahle with four points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal.
For Otterville, Hannah Stock scored 20 of the team’s 37 points.
As for the Bunceton boys basketball team, they struggled to score in the first quarter against Otterville and that proved to be the difference in the game while dropping a 60-50 decision.
The Dragons, 8-14 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA conference, trailed Otterville 31-20 at the half but outscored the Eagles 30-27 in the final-two periods.
Bunceton coach Yancy Cody said the boys came out slow and flat and couldn’t recover.
Ryan Benny had 22 points and Devin Rockett 19 for Otterville, who improved to 15-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
For Bunceton, Kyler Tucker had 22 points, five rebounds and one assist. Kyle Held added 10 points, three rebounds and two assists while Ashton Campbell had nine points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist, Jacob Clevenger with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal and Will Twenter with two points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
