The Glasgow boys and girls basketball teams had little trouble at home last night against the Madison Panthers while picking up the sweep by the scores of 82-26 and 71-11, respectively.
For the Lady Yellowjackets, who improved to 16-6 overall and 5-4 in the CAC, they outscored Madison in each of the four quarters of play while leading 24-4 after one, 41-8 at the half and 60-11 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Glasgow held a 11-0 advantage to win the game by 60.
Glasgow coach Molly Monnig said Blakeley Fuemmeler and Anne Reynolds really played some good minutes off of the bench.
We were able to get some buckets in transition,” stated Monnig. “Abby Thompson was able to play some limited time which was good for her confidence.”
Trisha McMillan and Nikki Fuemmeler combined for 38 of the team’s 71 points for Glasgow.
Fuemmeler also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Anne Reynolds finished the game with nine points while Blakeley Fuemmeler added eight, Erin Reynolds seven, Abby Thompson with five and Carley Brucks with four.
The Lady Yellowjackets also finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field and 68 percent from the foul line.
For Madison, Jamie Westfaul tossed in four points.
As for the Glasgow boys basketball team, they led Madison 50-18 at the break and then outscored the Panthers 32-8 in the second half for the victory.
Glasgow coach Mick Cropp said the boys came out and wanted to work on some specific things offensively. “We were able to work on several of those aspects of our game,” Cropp said. “It was nice to get a lot of guys some time especially on the first night of back-to-back games.”
Joel Monnig led five players in double figures for Glasgow, 18-5 overall and 7-3 in the CAC, with 19 points. Monnig also finished the game with seven rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Josh Sanders, meanwhile, finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ethan Thompson added 12 points, 10 assists and three steals while Blake Hackman chipped in 12 points, four assists, four steals and two rebounds, Reid Littrell with 10 points and three rebounds, Austin Stockhorst with five points, two assists and one rebound, Landon Brand with two points and three rebounds, Dalton Reeves with two points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, Garrett Fuemmeler with two points, two rebounds and one assist, Clay Littrell with two points, one rebound and one steal, Alex Mathews with three rebounds, Jimmie Wilson with one rebound, one assist and one steal and Daniel McMillan with one rebound and one steal.
The Yellowjackets also finished the game hitting 33 of 56 shots from the field for 59 percent and 12 of 19 from the foul line for 63 percent.
The Glasgow boys and girls basketball teams will host the New Franklin Bulldogs in CAC action tonight starting at 6 p.m. The Yellowjackets will then closeout the season with home games against Meadville on Tuesday, Feb. 12 and Keytesville on Friday, Feb. 15
Tip-off for the Meadville game is 5 p.m., while the game against Keytesville will start at 6 p.m.
