  • The Boonville Splash girls sixth grade basketball team picked up another win last night at the Hannah Cole gymnasium in Boonville by beating New Franklin 30-7.
Katie Cooper had the game-high for Boonville with 13 points while Jalyn Schnetzler added 12 and Josie Robb and Sydney Quint each with two.
For New Franklin, Lyna Williams tossed in four points.
Boonville coach Brett Cooper said the girls continue to improve with each game. “We are working hard at being aggressive with the basketball and taking the open shot,” Cooper said. “We have a lot to work on but I’m very happy with our progress.”
In the Third annual Blast Off Tournament held last weekend in Boonville, the Boonville Splash dropped its first game against the Blue Lightning of California by a score of 55-6.
Lauren Luscombe was the leading scorer in the game for Boonville with four points while Jacey Fenton chipped in two.
“The team from California was very good fundamentally,” Cooper said. “They pushed the ball up the court and our girls were not prepared to respond.
In the second game, the Boonville Splash defeated the GFS Baller 34-5.
Jalyn Schnetzler had the high game for Boonville with 17 points. Josie Robb followed with six points and Lauren Luscombe with four.
“It was obvious the girls didn’t enjoy losing the first game,” Cooper said. “They were determined to fight back and gain respect after the loss to California. Jalyn Schnetzler took command of the game by taking the open shots and penetrating into the lane. When she didn’t have the shot she made the great pass to her teammates for the score.”
In the final game of the tournament on Sunday, the Boonville Splash took third place in pool play by beating the Lady Gunners 14-13.
Jalyn Schnetzler had nine points to lead all scorers for the Boonville Splash. Katie Cooper chipped in three while Lauren Luscombe added two.
“The Lady Gunners were a good team,” stated Cooper. “They had several girls who were very tall on the inside. We really got some good defensive play out of our three forwards: Katie Cooper, Josie Robb and Kennedy Walker. Even though we were out-sized inside these girls worked hard to position themselves where we could control the boards and contain their scoring. It was a team effort and we won the game together.”
The Boonville Splash, 7-2 on the season, will participate in the MAYB Basketball Classic this weekend in Columbia.
The Splash will play the Sturgeon Bulldogs seventh grade team at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
