  • After 16 years of owning and operating Boonville's Radio Shack, Mark Livingston has decided it is time to close the store. Livingston said it has been hard to compete with online purchases that can be much cheaper than purchasing them at his store. Livingston will focus on satellite installation, and installation of other electronic devices. The store's last day will be February 9.
"We have studied our business model for some time and have come to the conclusion that right now is not a good time to be in the retail electronics business. All retailers are seeing more customers shopping online," Livingston said.
This entire week, Livingston has marked down all items in the store at 50 percent off as he tries to sell everything in stock. By Wednesday afternoon a number of items have been sold out but the store by no means is empty.
As for many businesses in Boonville, Livingston offered a personalized experience, helping an individual find whatever they needed.
What inventory that does remain after the February 9 closing will be sold at an auction in March.
Livingston will work full time what he has been doing on a part time basis.
"I will continued to do my Dish Network installation and wiring, sales and services," Livingston said.
"I enjoy being able to go out into the community and people's homes, and helping them solve whatever problems they may have," Livingston said. "I enjoy having the flexibility of being out and about."
Livingston will said he will miss the people he sees at the store the most.
"I have enjoyed meeting everyone and doing what I am doing. It was just time to make a change," he said
