  • Lady Dragons bounce back with impressive win over Calvary Lutheran

  • The Bunceton Lady Dragons basketball team seemed to have little trouble bouncing back from its loss Monday night against Helias’ JV by beating Calvary Lutheran by a score of 56-16.
    The Lady Dragons, improving to 16-2 on the season, opened the game with a 21-2 lead against Calvary Lutheran and then outscored the Lions 16-4 in the second to go in at the half on top by a score of 37-10. Bunceton also dominated the second half with a 19-10 advantage to win the game by 40.
    Bunceton coach Mike Arnold said the girls played well defensively. “Everybody played a lot so we had a chance to rest some legs and get ready for Jamestown again on Friday,” Arnold said.
    Erica Kahle led the Lady Dragons with 18 points along with three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
    Maddy Berwanger finished the game with 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals while Rachel Emde added 12 points, eight rebounds, six steals and two assists, Julia Kahle with eight points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists, Morgan Wieland with four points, one rebound and one steal and Becky Fredrich with one point.
    The Lady Dragons also had a good shooting night against Calvary Lutheran, at least from the field, while hitting on 24 of 47 shots for 51 percent. From the foul line, Bunceton made only 2 of 5 attempts for 40 percent.
    As for the Bunceton boys, they also won against Calvary Lutheran by a score of 52-49.
    The Dragons, 7-11 on the season, trailed Calvary Lutheran 12-8 after one and 15-14 at the half before rallying back with a 38-34 advantage in the second half.
    Bunceton coach Yancy Cody said he was very proud of the players on how well they played on both ends of the court.
    Will Twenter led three players in double figures for Bunceton with 18 points along with eight rebounds, three steals and one assist.
    Kyler Tucker had 17 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double while Kyle Held added 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal, Ashton Campbell with five points, two rebounds and one assist and Aaron Clevenger with two points, four steals, two rebounds and one assist.
    Bunceton also hit on 14 of 40 shots from the field for 35 percent and 23 of 30 from the foul line for 77 percent.
