The Bunceton boys and girls basketball teams ventured outside of the CCAA conference last night and fell to the Jeff City Helias Crusaders JV by the scores of 76-50 and 43-33, respectively.
The Lady Dragons, fresh off from winning the CCAA Tournament over the weekend in Bunceton, trailed Helias JV 18-11 at the half and 33-22 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Bunceton rallied back with a 11-10 advantage.
Bunceton coach Mike Arnold said his team had too many turnovers and took too many threes. “We didn’t attack their zone and settled for jump shots,” Arnold said.
Erica Kahle led the Lady Dragons, who dropped to 15-2 on the season, with 20 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists. Rachel Emde had 11 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and one assist while Sam Brandes added two points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
As for the Bunceton boys basketball team, they trailed Helias 15-6 after one, 30-19 at the half and 51-36 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, the Crusaders outscored Bunceton 25-14 to win the game by 26.
Bunceton coach Yancy Cody said the boys played well offensively. “We moved the ball well,” Cody said. “We just have to get better on the defensive end.”
Kyler Tucker led the Dragons, 5-12 on the season, with 16 points along with four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Ashton Campbell finished the game with 11 points and three rebounds while Aaron Clevenger added nine points, seven rebounds and one steal, Kyle Held with nine points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists, Will Twenter with three points and six rebounds and Dylan Custer with two points.
