  • Boonville 6th boys win back-to-back games in Pilot Grove Tourney

  • The Boonville Pirates sixth grade basketball team is off to a good start in the Pilot Grove Swimming Pool Basketball Tournament after winning back-to-back games against Otterville and Smithton by the scores of 46-16 and 41-21, respectively.
    In the game against Otterville on Sunday, Jan. 20th, the Pirates opened the first half with a 30-7 lead against the Eagles.
    Trey Williams led the Pirates with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Dylan Watson, meanwhile, finished the game with 10 points, seven rebounds and one steal while Reece Lang added 10 points, three steals, two assists and one rebound, Malik Brazil with six points, five rebounds and four steals, Clayton Gochenour with six points, one rebound, one steal and one blocked shot and Zack Watring with two points.
    Meanwhile, in the second game against Smithton, Boonville led 23-9 at the half and 34-15 after three quarters of play before outscoring Smithton 7-6 in the final period.
    Williams led the scoring attack in the game for Boonville with 14 points along with two steals and one rebound. Brazil had nine points, two rebounds and two steals while Lang added eight points and three steals, Watson with six points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal, Kellen Brownfield with two points, two rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal, Gochenour with two points, one rebound and one steal and Watring with seven rebounds.
    Boonville coach Kevin Lang said the boys played well in both games. “We were able to get steals and layups off our press and pressure defense,” Lang said. “They have been doing a better job limiting their turnovers and moving the ball better on offense.”
    The Boonville Pirates basketball team will play Full Throttle in the championship game on Saturday, Jan. 26th.
