  • New Franklin Tournament will go on as planned tonight with four games

  • After cancelling the first day of the 84th annual New Franklin Invitational Tournament, Athletic Director Ross Dowell said the tournament will go on as planned tonight with four games starting at 4:30 p.m.
    While dropping the seventh-place games for both the boys and girls, Dowell said the games originally scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 20th will now be made up on Wednesday, Jan. 2nd.
    On the boys side of the bracket, Sturgeon picked up the No. 1 seed, followed by Tipton, Fayette, New Franklin, Pilot Grove, Sweet Springs, Westran and Jamestown.
    Meanwhile, on the girls side of the bracket, Sturgeon was again the No. 1 seed, followed by New Franklin as the two, Sweet Springs as the three, Tipton as the four, Westran as the five, Pilot Grove as the six, Jamestown as the seven and Fayette as the eight.
    In the games tonight, the Pilot Grove girls will face off against the Sweet Springs Greyhounds starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by the New Franklin boys versus Pilot Grove at 6, Tipton girls versus Westran at 7:30 and Tipton boys versus Westran at 9.
    As for the games that will be made up on Wednesday, Jan. 2, the New Franklin girls will take on Jamestown at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Sturgeon boys versus Jamestown at 6, Sturgeon girls versus Fayette at 7:30 and Fayette versus Sweet Springs at 9.
    The semifinal games for both the boys and girls will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3rd while the consolation semifinals will take place on Friday, Jan. 4.
    All trophy games will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, with the girls consolation finals at 10 a.m., followed by the boys consolation finals at 11:30, girls third-place game at 1 p.m., boys third-place game at 2:30, girls championship game at 4 p.m.; and boys championship game at 5:30.
