The Way I See It
My name is Dennis Miller and I am a lifelong resident of Kirksville, MO. I have been totally blind since birth and a sports fanatic just as long. I like all sports but love baseball and am a proud lifelong member of Cardinal Nation. It is my honor to be given the opportunity to write a blog for the Kirksville Daily Express and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

What happens when the two worst teams in the NFL play each other?  They play the worst football game of the year.  That’s precisely what happened when the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders met in a game that can best be described as pathetic.  The Raiders managed to win the game 15 to 0 but please don’t be fooled by that score, it was not a defensive struggle.  It was a game in which neither team had an offense, both quarterbacks played terribly, both teams have coaches who will surely be looking for jobs at season’s end and a game played by two teams who have no idea what direction to go from here.  It was an agonizing game to watch and I’m sorry I wasted three hours of my life watching it.

The St. Louis Rams played an excellent second half against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.  Unfortunately they played a terrible first half and dug themselves too deep of a hole to be able to climb out of and went down to defeat 36 to 22.  The Rams simply made too many mistakes which the Vikings were able to cash in on.  Sunday’s loss eliminates any chance the Rams had of making the playoffs.  The Rams have still made progress this year and definitely have something to build on for next year.

It’s hard to believe there are only two weeks left in the NFL season.  It seems like it just started a couple of weeks ago.  Unless of course you are a Chiefs fan in which case it has been the longest season in franchise history.

The Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team hits the hardwood on Monday with their final tune up game before things get much harder for them.  The Tigers play South Carolina State and then play a very good Illinois team on Saturday.  The Tigers are still coming together as a team and they still have work to do but they will get there and I have been impressed with what I have seen thus far.

The Truman State women’s basketball team has games Monday and Tuesday as they play in Riverside, CA where it is much warmer than it is here.  It will be a good test for the Bulldogs and an excellent opportunity to play teams they obviously don’t normally get to play.

The men’s team has games Tuesday and Wednesday night at the Quincy tournament.  Both teams then get time off over the holidays before getting back to MIAA conference play.

The Kirksville High School boys and girls basketball teams are back in action on Monday night traveling to Clark County to play the Indians and then both Kirksville teams have games later in the week at Trenton.

The wrestling team is on the road on Tuesday evening in their final meet before the holiday break.

We’ll be back on Wednesday with hopefully a longer blog as we get ready for a little down time as the sports world pauses briefly for Christmas.  Please continue supporting all the blogs on this site and taking time to read this one.

Have a great Monday!
