The Pilot Grove boys and girls junior varsity basketball teams dropped a pair of games Wednesday night against the Sedalia Sacred Heart Gremlins by the scores of 48-36 and 34-22, respectively.
The Tigers trailed Sacred Heart 15-6 after one 24-20 at the half and 41-25 after three quarters of play before rallying back with a 11-7 advantage in the final period.
Pilot Grove coach Rick Grunden said he was very proud of the JV team.  “They were up against an exceptional JV squad tonight playing Sacred Heart,” Grunden said.  “The boys played very hard and worked right up until the end.   They are getting better with each game and it is exciting to watch.”
Jimmy Villalobos had the game-high for Sacred Heart with 13 while Kolin Brace chipped in 12.
Brandon Brown and Scott Blank each had 11 points in the game for Pilot Grove while Ben Glenn chipped in six, Alex Twenter and Regan Meisenheimer each with three and Adam Newell with two.
For the Pilot Grove girls, they trailed Sacred Heart 12-10 at the half and 26-13 after three quarters of play before rallying back with a 9-8 scoring edge in the final period.
Pilot Grove coach Landon Daniel said the JV team continues to work on basketball skills in these games and they will get better as time goes on and they continue to practice. “We have to learn how to make better passes and need some girls to want to take the ball to the basket and want to shoot the ball when they are open,” Daniel said. “The great thing is that all of these girls are young and will get better with more and more experience.”
Erin O’Conner and Sydney Eicholz each had eight points while Issy Wilhelm chipped in sevenfor Sacred Heart.
For Pilot Grove, 0-2, Allison Weekly had seven, Rileigh Grunden four, Ashlynn Hardt three and Rachel Lorenz, Cynthia Brumback, MaKenzie Twenter and Katelyn Renfro each with two.
