The New Franklin boys and girls JV basketball teams picked up two wins at home last night by beating the Slater Wildcats by the scores of 34-7 and 45-22, respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs, 1-0 on the season, outscored Slater in each of the four quarters of play and led 8-5 after one, 21-13 at the half and 36-15 after three quarters of play. New Franklin also held a 9-7 advantage in the final period.
New Franklin girls coach Chris McGowan said this was a nice win for our junior varsity group.
“I was most pleased with the execution offensively and the fact that our girls appeared to be organized while running offense,” McGowan said. “Too often at the JV level players struggle to get into the positions that they should be in on the floor, but our girls didn’t do that throughout this game. Defensively at times we were caught out of position, but that is something we can continue to work on in practice.”
Sara Montgomery paced all scorers in the game for New Franklin with 11 points. Jordan Winningham and Aislinn Himmelberg each had nine points while Derian Dodson chipped in eight, Roxe Hendrix with four and Molly Lyons and Brittany Anderson each with two.
As for the New Franklin boys JV, they led Slater 13-6 at the half and then outscored the Wildcats 21-1 in the second half for the victory.
New Franklin coach Jim Schlotzhauer said the JV boys played well on the defensive end.
“We gave up one contested shot, then pushed the ball up the floor,” Schlotzhauer said. “We moved the ball well most of the night and took some good shots.”
Ronnie Perkins had the game-high for New Franklin’s JV with nine points while Zach Evans chipped in eight, Jacob Hendrix with six, Kaleb Anderton with three and Cody wells, Jacob Woodbury, Levi Bishop, Austin Ivy and Sonny Martin each with two.
