The LSE Hawks wrestling team finished strong over the weekend while capturing first-place finishes in six different weight classes while competing against a field of 11 other teams in the Carrollton Tournament.
While competing against Brookfield, Carrollton, Chillicothe, Moberly, Richmond, Knob Noster, Holden, Missouri Military Academy, Lexington and Higginsville, LSE wrestling coach Jeff Francis said this was a real tough tournament but the Hawks came out on top with the most first place finishers and most place winners. “It was real close in the end with Richmond but Jeffrey Davidson came through with a victory to secure another team championship,” Francis said. “It was great to see the gymnasium erupt as Jeffrey got his hands raised. This was a strong contentment of how our Hawk wrestling team has performed this year. We take some hits along the road but in the end we all come out as team champions. I am very proud of these young men and their performance today.”
Capturing first place for the Hawks were Klayton Anderson with four wins in the 99-pound weight class; Blake Barnes with four runs at 110; Remington Hammers with four wins at 127; Lucas Gerke with three wins at 150; Thomas Grathwohl with three runs at 74; and Wyatt Grizzle with three wins at 132.
Gabe Rumbaoa finished second with three wins in the 160-pound weight class while Michael Flint and Christian Kosnopfal captured third place at 101 and 161, respectively. KeAndre Anderson and Jeffrey Davidson, meanwhile, finished four with one win each at 156 and 118, respectively.
The LSE Hawks wrestling team will closeout the regular season on Saturday, Dec. 15 in the Mexico Tournament starting at 9 a.m.
