  • Boonville sophomores Morgan Edwards and Addy Reardon weren’t about to let the third-place trophy slip through their fingers Friday night in the Eugene  Tournament while playing the No. 2 Russellville Indians.
After a disappointing finish in the semifinal round against top-seeded Blair Oaks on Thursday, Edwards and Reardon took it personal on Friday against Russellville while combining for 35 points and 19 rebounds for a 60-43 victory.
More importantly, the Lady Pirates improved to 2-1 on the season heading into the Centralia Tournament as the No. 6 seed.
Boonville Lady Pirates basketball coach Jaryt Hunziker said after a disappointing second half against Blair Oaks, the girls came in to Friday’s game up for the challenge against No. 2 Russellville.
“We took pride in our defensive effort for all four quarters by improving our rebounding and keeping their two best players (Vokart and Grellner) in check,” Hunziker said. “It was a total team effort on both ends of the floor. We definitely have to do a better job of closing out games by knocking down shots at the free-throw line. It was nice to see some balanced scoring as four Lady Pirates reached double digits. I was very pleased and proud of the girls on how they bounced back from the game against Blair Oaks. We hope to ride the momentum of the win into the Centralia Tournament.”
Of course it didn’t hurt in Friday’s game after the Lady Pirates led Russellville 25-18 at the half or 44-35 after three quarters of play. However in the final period, Boonville came back and pulled away from the Lady Indians with a 16-8 advantage for the victory.
With four players in double figures, Edwards led the charge with 18 points, eight rebounds and five steals while Reardon had 17 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double along with five assists and four steals.
Olivia Imhoff finished the game with 11 points, seven steals, six rebounds and one assist while Millie Moyer added 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals, Cassidy Renfrow with two points, two assists and one rebound and Aly Wessing with one point, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists.
For Russellville, Hannah Campbell was the only player in double figures with 15 points.
Boonville also finished the game hitting 25 of 59 shots from the field for 44 percent and 8 of 20 from the foul line for 40 percent.
