The LSE boys and girls junior high basketball teams will play for the championship in the Centralia Middle School Basketball Tournament after beating West Junior last night in the semifinal round by the scores of 52-31 and 41-7, respectively.
The Lady Hawks, 5-0 on the season, led West Junior 21-5 at the half and 33-7 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, LSE outscored West Junior 8-0 to win the game by 34.
LSE coach Emily Allsop said the girls did a good job keeping up their intensity for the entire game.
“Everyone saw a lot of minutes, and did a lot of things well,” Allsop said. “ Edwards, Allison, and Monteer did a great job pressuring their guards and getting steals. Paige and Kate Peterson were fantastic on offense; Kate hit Paige five times in a row for easy lay-ups. On the down side, we still had too many turn-overs and made some bad decisions.”
Paige Peterson had 18 points along with two rebounds, one assist and one steal to lead the Lady Hawks.
Kyla Johnson finished the game with six points and one rebound while Brynn Edwards added five points, five steals, one rebound and one assist, Kate Peterson with four points, eight assists, three rebounds and three steals, Leigha Vollmer with three points, two steals and one rebound, Camryn Monteer with two points, three steals and two rebounds, Blake Allison with two points and one rebound, Angelina Hein with one point, two rebounds and two steals, McKenna Stumph with two rebounds and one steal and Stephanie Kempf with two rebounds.
For West Junior, Maylie Holt tossed in three points.
As for the LSE Hawks, they also led West Junior from start to finish while taking a 29-9 lead at the half and a 41-17 advantage after three quarters of play. West Junior, meanwhile, held a 14-11 scoring edge in the final period to cut the lead to 21.
LSE coach Terry Luster said the team played good hard defensive pressure and took West Junior out of their offense.
Alec Adair and Kole Ficken each had 16 points in the game for LSE, who improved to 2-3 on the season.
Ficken also finished the game with five rebounds and four steals while Adair had three rebounds and two steals.
Weston Fahrenbrink added nine points, four rebounds and two steals while Avery Reardon chipped in three points and one rebound, Brett Dillender with two points, four rebounds and one steal, Giovanni Strickland with two points, one rebound and one steal and Ethan Waibel and Jaylen Butner each with two points.
The LSE Lady Hawks will play Centralia for the championship while the LSE boys will take on Jeff Junior for the title on Friday, Nov. 30 at 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
