  • The Ss. Peter & Paul girls eighth grade basketball team raised its season record to 9-2 by turning back Fayette 32-14 Tuesday night at Fayette.
The Lady Warriors outscored Fayette in each of the four quarters of play and led 20-7 at the half and 24-9 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Ss. Peter & Paul held a 8-5 advantage.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Danny Fuemmeler said it was a great effort by all eight players. “I have not coached a team in a long time that gets after the ball on defense like this one does,” Fuemmeler said. “We need to make improvements on our half-court offense and tonight there were moments it looked like it was coming together, but we just need more consistency on offense.”
Hannah Fuemmeler had the high game for Ss. Peter & Paul with 10 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Kiley Barnes finished the game with seven points, six steals and one rebound while Cassie Armentrout added five points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist, Addy Quinlan with four points, six steals, two rebounds and one assist, Ella Reisinger with two points, three rebounds and one steal, Lindsay Harris with two points, one rebound, one steal and one assist, Amber Oerly with two points and one rebound and Ellie Monk with three rebounds.
As for the Ss. Peter & Paul girls seventh grade basketball team, they led Fayette 4-0 after one, 11-2 at the half and 15-3 after three before outscoring the Falcons 8-4 in the final period.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Carol Griffin said this was a great improvement from the night before. “ The girls were prepared and played with more intensity tonight,” Griffin said. “That’s the one thing about these girls they play hard throughout the whole game and I couldn’t be more proud of them. They have made some great strides this year. A great effort from everyone, the starters came out right away and set the tone of the game. We were aggressive on our press, created turnovers and were able to capitalize on them. Offensively, we moved the ball around the perimeter well and looked inside for Rachel who came up big for us tonight. Even though some of the girls who didn’t score very much contributed to the win with their steals and rebounds such as Emily, Kaitlyn, Claire and Maddie. These girls you don’t read much about but they really have stepped up their game, I wished we didn’t have such a long break before we play again.”
Mackenzie Lutz paced all scorers for Ss. Peter & Paul with 11 points along with seven steals and three rebounds. Rachel Lutz had six points, 10 rebounds and two steals while Emily Imhoff added three points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists, Hannah Gross also with three points and one steal, Kaitlyn Doza with eight steals and two rebounds, Claire Grissum with four steals and one assist, Megan Young with three steals and one rebound and Maddie Weber with three steals.
