Paige Renfrow had 23 points and Kaitlin Weekley added 10 as the Blackwater girls junior high basketball team defeated St. Joseph Pilot Grove 44-20 in the opening round of the Blackwater Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs led St. Joseph Pilot Grove 21-14 at the half and then outscored the Lady Cougars 23-6 in the final-two periods for the victory.
Celine Dodson had six points, five rebounds and one assist to lead St. Joseph Pilot Grove. Marissa Day also had six points and four rebounds while Emily Schupp added two points, five rebounds and four steals, Karsyn Kraus with two points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, Madeline Goehman with two points, three rebounds, two steals, two assists and one blocked shot, Isabella Heckman with two points, two rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot and Maci Twenter with two rebounds.
As for the St. Joseph Pilot Grove boys, they led Boonville’s sixth grade from start to finish for a 41-24 victory.
The Cougars opened up a 23-18 halftime lead and then outscored Boonville 18-6 in the final-two periods.
Parker Schuster had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Schuster also had four steals.
Layne Wessing chipped in 10 points, four steals and two rebounds while Brady Rentel added six points, eight blocked shots, seven rebounds and three steals, Jared Schupp with six points and six rebounds, Anderson Twenter with three points, six rebounds and one steal, Kale Day with five rebounds and Layton Streck with one rebound.
For Boonville, Reece Lang had 10, Cole Meisenheimer and Malik Brazil six each and Kellen Brownfield and Tyler Schuster with one point each.
