  • Bunceton boys fall to Macks Creek, 66-33

  • The Bunceton Lady Dragons basketball team left little doubt last night against Climax Springs in the opening round of the Tipton Invitational Tournament.
    As the No. 3 seed, the Lady Dragons jumped out to a 34-11 halftime lead and then matched Climax Springs with nine points in the third quarter to go up 43-20. Meanwhile, in the final period, Climax Springs held a 9-6 advantage but it was to no avail as the Lady Dragons won 49-29.
    While improving to 2-0 on the season, head coach Mike Arnold said his team  played very well in the first half but lost their intensity in the second half. “It’s my job as the coach to get these girls ready to play with the same intensity for all four quarters and I didn’t do that,” Arnold said.
    Senior Erica Kahle led the Lady Dragons with 20 points along with two steals, one rebound and one assist.
    Junior Rachel Emde finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double while Sam Brandes added eight points, five rebounds and four steals, Maddy Berwanger with four points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists, Deanne Emde with two points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist, Morgan Wieland with two points and Julia Kahle with one point, six assists and one rebound.
    For Climax Springs, Brooke Lacey tossed in 10 points.
    As for the Bunceton boys, they had a little tougher time while falling to Macks Creek 66-33.
    The Dragons, dropping to 0-2 on the season, trailed Macks Creek 35-22 at the half and 67-25 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Macks Creek outscored the Dragons 9-8.
    Bunceton coach Yancy Cody said his team played hard but still have to be able to put four quarters together.
    Cody Edison had 20 points and 14 rebounds for Macks Creek.
    For Bunceton, Jacob Clevenger had 12 points, three rebounds and one assist.
    Kyle Held finished the game with nine points, two assists and one rebound while Kyler Tucker added five points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists, Aaron Clevenger with four points, three rebounds and one assist, Will Twenter with two points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist and Ashton Campbell with one point, seven rebounds and one steal.
