Richard ‘Dick’ Hittner, 84, of Boonville, passed away at Cooper County Memorial Hospital on Sunday evening, Nov. 25, 2012. Visitation for Dick will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Thursday evening, November 29th, 2012 from 6:30 until 8:00 o’clock with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 and prayer service at 6:15. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 o’clock A.M. on Friday, Nov. 30th at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. After the mass there will be a celebration with full military honors outside the church. Richard Arthur Hittner was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, Sept. 20, 1928, the son of Arthur A. Hittner and Claire Wegner Hittner. He married Melba Louise Hoddle Nov. 29, 1952 in Carrolton, MO. Dick and Melba moved to Boonville in 1954 where they were partners with his parents doing business as Hittner Furniture. They purchased the business in 1965 and retired in 1986. Dick was an avid golfer and was a charter member of the Boonville Golf Club. He was a knowledgeable sports enthusiast; a fan of M.U. Tigers, coached Little League Baseball and more recently he enjoyed watching professional football with a special interest. Dick was a devout member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Hittner was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rosemary Olsen. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Melba, of the home, his children, Mark Hittner and his wife, Rebecca of Kansas City, MO, and Paula J. Hittner, of Columbia, MO. His siblings, Herman Hittner of Lansing, Michigan, Bob Hittner of St. Louis, MO, Paul Hittner of McCallen, Texas and Tony Hittner of Salina, Kansas, Ann Gerard of Overland Park, Kansas and Virginia Hittner of McCallen, Texas also survive. His grandchildren; Jason McRoberts of Kansas City, Grant Hittner of Arcata, California, Lincoln Hittner of Honolulu, Hawaii and Maddie Callis of New York and great-grandchildren, Alexis Holland of Kansas City and Carrington, Eli, and Tyler McRoberts of Kansas City also survive. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request that memorials be directed to the SS Peter and Paul Catholic School endowment fund.
