  • A semi truck fire slowed westbound Interstate 70 to a standstill Sunday night as responders battled the blaze. Cooper County Rural Fire Protection Chief David Gehm said a semi truck driver stopped along the westbound lane of the interstate around the 100 mile marker because of a possible tire blowout. Upon checking for the blowout he noticed his cab was on fire. Gehm said the Cooper County Rural Fire Department responded with 12 responders, one engine and two tankers. He said it took about 1,500 gallons of water to put out the fire which did not take too long. The cab was a total loss but they were able to save the trailer portion from being burned, according to Gehm. Traffic resumed to normal shortly after the fire was extinguished.
