The St. Joseph Pilot Grove girls junior high basketball team moved one step closer to the championship in the Clarksburg Tournament last night by turning back Latham 40-13.
The Lady Cougars, 5-2 on the season, outscored Latham in each of the four quarters of play and led 12-2 after one, 18-5 at the half and 28-8 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, St. Joseph Pilot Grove held a 12-5 advantage.
Marissa Day led the Lady Cougars with 18 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists.
Karsyn Kraus had nine points, five steals, five assists, four blocked shots and three rebounds while Emily Schupp added six points, seven steals and three rebounds, Celine Dodson with five points, four steals and one assist, Madeline Goehman with two points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal and Isabella Heckman with six rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Steudle had the team-high for Latham with eight points.
The St. Joseph Pilot Grove girls will play for the championship tonight starting at 8 p.m.
