The New Franklin boys and girls seventh-eighth grade basketball teams had some home cooking for the Fayette Falcons Tuesday night.
While the Lady Bulldogs dialed up a 39-15 win over Fayette, the New Franklin boys were just as impressive while outscoring the Falcons in all four quarters of play for a 44-18 victory.
New Franklin coach Chris McGowan said he was pretty pleased with the half-court execution offensively. “We moved the ball pretty nicely and got some really good looks at the basket as a result,” McGowan said. “Defensively, we played pretty well for the most part. There were a few times where Fayette caught us out of position, but overall I felt that the girls did a nice job.”
The Lady Bulldogs definitely made a statement early while leading Fayette 26-7 at the half and 36-11 after three quarters of play.
Kacie White led the scoring attack in the game for New Franklin with 14 points while Grace Hundley chipped in eight, Jasmine Himmelberg seven, Chloe Dobson six and Sydney Dowell with four.
As for the New Franklin boys, they had eight players in the scoring column against Fayette.
Although the Falcons kept the game close in the first quarter while trailing by just two at 9-7, it was pretty much all New Franklin after that while leading Fayette 19-10 at the half and 31-17 after three quarters of play. The Bulldogs also outscored Fayette 13-1 in the final period.
New Franklin coach Jim Schlotzhauer said the boys played a very good game. “After the first quarter especially we really defended and got the types of shots that we wanted to get,” Schlotzhauer said. “I was very pleased with the efforts we gave on the court.”
Austin Jones had the high game for New Franklin with 21 points. Philip Udinyiwe chipped in six points while Brendan Hundley, Josh Udinyiwe and Mason Bailey added four points each, Sid Hendrix and Bailey Lyons each with two points and Kale Harris with one.
