The St. Joseph Pilot Grove boys junior high basketball team picked up a hard-fought win against Clarksburg last night in the second round of the Clarksburg Tournament by a score of 34-33.
While beating Latham the night before 35-8, the Cougars had a little more trouble last night against Clarksburg while leading by just one (21-20) at the break. Meanwhile, in the third quarter, Clarksburg rallied back with a 6-4 advantage to go up by one at 26-25. However, in the final period, St. Joseph rallied back again with a 9-7 scoring edge for the victory.
Brady Rentel led the scoring attack in the game for St. Joseph Pilot Grove with 13 points along with four rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.
Parker Schuster finished the game with 11 points, nine rebounds and three steals while Anderson Twenter added four points and two rebounds, Jared Schupp with three points and six rebounds and Layne Wessing with three points and two steals.
Pace had 13 for Clarksburg while Tate chipped in 10.
As for the game on Tuesday against Latham, the Cougars jumped out to a 27-4 halftime lead and then held a 8-4 scoring edge in the final-two periods for the victory.
Brady Rentel had the game-high for St. Joseph with 13 points along with three rebounds, three blocked shots and one steal.
Anderson Twenter finished the game with 10 points, four rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot while Parker Schuster added six points, eight rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot, Layne Wessing with four points, Jared Schupp with two points and eight rebounds and Kale Day with four rebounds and one blocked shot.
For Latham, Salmons had four points while Bonecutter and Baumgartner added two points each.
