  • Two bad quarters cost Lady Warriors in 19-8 loss

  • The Ss. Peter & Paul boys seventh grade basketball team outscored St. Mary’s of Glasgow 9-4 in the first quarter and never looked back, beating the Jaguars last night at the Ss. Peter & Paul gymnasium by a score of 45-29.
    The Warriors led St. Mary’s of Glasgow 21-9 at the half. However, in the third quarter, the Jaguars made a run by outscoring Ss. Peter & Paul 15-10 to cut the lead to seven at 31-24. St. Mary’s never got any closer in the ballgame as Ss. Peter & Paul came back with a 14-5 advantage in the final period for the victory.
    Samuel Wiser had a double-double in the game for Ss. Peter & Paul with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Thomas Simmons had nine points and one rebound while Kellen Barnes added eight points and one rebound, Kyle Chrisman with seven points and four rebounds, Ben Eichelberger with two points and 10 rebounds and Ben Horst with two points.
    Jacob Monnig had nine points to lead all scorers for St. Mary’s of Glasgow.
    As for the Ss. Peter & Paul girls seventh grade basketball team, they struggled from the second quarter on against St. Mary’s of Glasgow while falling by a score of 19-8.
    Despite the loss, which dropped Ss. Peter & Paul to 3-5 on the season, the Lady Warriors outscored St. Mary’s 6-2 in the first and fourth quarter but was outscored 17-2 in the middle two periods.
    Ss. Peter & Paul coach Carol Griffin said the girls did a much better job of taking care of the ball. “We had few turnovers,” Griffin said. “Passing the ball has improved with our team. The girls are so close to putting everything together. We have played several games so it will be nice to have a few days off and get back in the gym to work on being more aggressive on rebounding and shooting.”
    Jadyn Monnig paced all scorers for St. Mary’s with six points while Littrell chipped in five and Mia Polson with four.
    For Ss. Peter & Paul, Mackenzie Lutz had four points, two rebounds and two steals while Rachel Lutz also chipped in four points. Emily Imhoff added two rebounds and one steals while Hannah Gross had two rebounds and Kaitlyn Doza with two steals.
    Friday’s games
    Otterville 8th (G) 38
    Ss. Peter & Paul 7th 7
    Trudy Capps sizzled the nets for a game-high 20 points, leading the Otterville girls junior high basketball team past Ss. Peter & Paul Friday night at Otterville.
    The Lady Eagles led Ss. Peter & Paul 25-5 at the half and then outscored the Warriors 13-2 in the second half.
    Page 2 of 2 - Ss. Peter & Paul coach Carol Griffin said the girls played well against a much better eighth grade team. “They applied pressure which we were unable to handle,” Griffin said. “The girls played hard against an aggressive team in return we never gave up.”
    For Ss. Peter & Paul, Mackenzie Lutz had four points, five rebounds and two steals. Megan Young chipped in two points while Emily Imhoff added one point, five rebounds and three steals.

    Ss. Peter & Paul 7th 3
    The Otterville boys junior high basketball team led the Ss. Peter & Paul seventh boys from start to finish for a 33-3 victory Friday night at Otterville.
    Samuel Wiser had two of the team’s three points for Ss. Peter & Paul while Kellen Barnes added one point.
