The New Franklin boys and girls junior high basketball teams couldn’t have started any worse last night on the road against the Glasgow Yellowjackets.
While the Lady Bulldogs trailed 12-6 after one and 24-8 at the half while dropping a 37-20 decision, the New Franklin boys couldn’t seem to buy a basket while trailing the Yellowjackets 19-0 in the first quarter while suffering a 46-11 setback.
The Lady Yellowjackets also outscored New Franklin 13-12 in the second half to win the game by 17.
New Franklin coach Chris McGowan said the girls didn’t play with a lot of intensity to start the game.
“Glasgow jumped on us early and never let us back into the game,” McGowan said.  “Glasgow also really shot the ball well in this game, so they deserve a lot of credit.  Once you start a game like we did this one it is really tough to fight uphill throughout the game and make up for such a bad start.  We have a couple of games left this year and want to finish the year on a strong note.”
Kacie White had eight points to lead all scorers for New Franklin while Jasmine Himmelberg and Molly Lyons added four points each and Jordan Winningham and Lilly Oser each with two points.
As for the New Franklin boys, they trailed Glasgow 30-2 at the half and 46-3 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, the Bulldogs outscored Glasgow 8-0.
Hayden Hackman led the scoring attack in the game for Glasgow with 15 points.
For New Franklin, Mason Bailey and Kenny Boggs each had four points while Kaleb Anderton chipped in two and Austin Jones with one.
