  • On the morning of 5/14/2012 The Cooper County Sheriff's Office, along with other emergency
responders, were dispatched to a report of an infant child that was not breathing. The child was
    pronounced deceased that morning.
An autopsy was conducted on the child shortly after the death. The final results of the autopsy
revealed that the child's death was not accidental. Continued investigation of the circumstances
surrounding the infant's death has lead to the arrest of a 24 year old Columbia, Missouri woman.
Arrested yesterday was 24 year old Treschell R. Kemp. A probable cause affidavit was filed
with the Cooper County Court yesterday morning resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant. Kemp
was arrested on a Cooper County warrant charging her with murder in the second degree, domestic
assault in the first degree and abuse of a child. Kemp is currently being held at the Cooper County
Detention Center on a $250,000.00 bond.
Investigators from the Cooper County Sheriff's Department and the State Technical Assistance Team
are continuing to work on the case. No further information regarding the case is being released at
